Distance MAc

The Distance Master of Accountancy (MAc) Program is designed to provide students flexibility in balancing their coursework with their lifestyles, families, and professional commitments. Using state-of-the-art facilities, we combine video and internet technology to provide quality instruction to students around the nation. Students may complete their degrees in only two years while working full-time. Both distance and on-campus students follow the same curriculum and receive the same degree, a Master of Accountancy.

Applicants to the MAc Program must have completed a four-year undergraduate business degree with a concentration in accounting from an accredited institution. Program prerequisites are listed on the MAc Program Prerequisite Checklist.

If a prospective student has not completed the undergraduate accounting foundation courses listed on the aforementioned checklist, then he or she may complete these courses via distance learning at Auburn University before applying to the MAc Program. The MAc degree provides a broad-based business education. The courses focus on enhancing students' analytical and critical thinking skills, written and oral communication skills, and understanding of the global nature of the accounting profession. The curriculum offers students the flexibility to tailor their programs of study to meet specific career goals and objectives. Students take only four core accounting courses, three accounting electives, and three business electives.

The MAc Program is a 30 semester hour non-thesis degree program. Students enrolled in a non-thesis degree program must pass a comprehensive examination. The MAc Program Capstone Project/On-Campus Residency Requirement serves as the comprehensive examination and is a requirement for graduation. Students complete the Capstone Project/On-Campus Residency Requirement while enrolled in ACCT 7980/ACCT 7986 Integrated Accounting Concepts for Decision Making. This course is offered spring semester only and is open only to MAc students graduating during the spring term or following summer term. All students (both on-campus and distance learning) are required to be on-campus during the residency period which spans a four and one-half day period near the end of the course, beginning on a Thursday evening and concluding on the following Monday.
