The Master of Accountancy (MAc) Program is a one-year, professional non-thesis degree program requiring 30-semester hours. The MAc Program provides a broad-based business education focusing on integrating the various disciplines within the profession, enhancing analytical and critical thinking skills, enhancing written and oral communication skills, and understanding the global nature of the accounting profession. Particular emphasis is given to the development of technology skills and the ability to assess business risk and performance. The curriculum offers students the flexibility to tailor their graduate education to meet specific career goals and objectives. Students take only four core accounting courses. In addition, they choose three accounting electives and three business electives.
Students enrolled in a non-thesis degree program must pass a comprehensive examination. The MAc Program Capstone Project/On-Campus Residency Requirement serves as the comprehensive examination and is a requirement for graduation. Students complete the Capstone Project/On-Campus Residency Requirement while enrolled in ACCT 7980/ACCT 7986 Integrated Accounting Concepts for Decision Making. This course is offered spring semester only and is open only to MAc students graduating during the spring term or following summer term. All students (both on-campus and distance learning) are required to be on-campus during the residency period which spans a four and one-half period near the end of the course, beginning on a Thursday evening and concluding on the following Monday.
The MAc Program continues to experience a greater than 95% placement rate of its students prior to graduation. Our graduates go on to successful careers in public accounting, governmental accounting, and industry as well as other entrepreneurial opportunities. In addition, our graduates score significantly above the national average in passing all parts of the Uniform CPA examination on their first attempt.
